in some ways i think this might be the most important work in techno/house in the last 5 years (minimum)...
and here, the piece that carl craig and moritz von oswald reworked and then villalobos remixed

Ultravox!
I've had this song in my head ever since seeing Luchino Visconti's "The Damned". Associative reflexes are so clunky sometimes.

Friends of Distinction
I usually listen to this song when I feel a little bummed. Without fail, it always gives me a delightful kick in the bum.
Dark Day
ex-DNA's Robin Crutchfield's solo work. On his current website he has a pointy hat and elfin ears-what happend? Anyway....

RA podcast: Louderbach
goth, new wave, techno. 35 tracks warped together into a seamless mix. gibby was the singer of a crap band when i lived in boston (and my friend heathers ex boyfriend). now he lives in LA and is the singer of the best gothno duo to have graced the earth. troy pierce is the other half. he did the actual mix.

holy fuck! NMH as high school musical
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is considered by many to be one of the most amazing and beautiful albums ever made. Jef Mangum's fever dream/ode to anne frank, the holocaust, and his personal take on religion is arresting and can dominate ones life and listening habits upon first listen. amanda palmer (dresden dolls-blechhh) together with her high school drama teacher and his drama dept at lexington high school in the boston area wrote and produced an ensemble piece based on the album. here is a recording of a performance of "With the Needle that Sings in her Heart". It starts with a weird vaudevillian intro unrelated to the story.
Stefan Goldmann’s “Voices of the Dead” project
for all you nerds out there, check out this podcast including live recording of voices of the dead set by goldmann and other pieces he likes

gothno three
the best song on this ep is actually called "stella called", but the ep was badly marked and people confused that song with the one below. HERE IN ALL ITS GLORY is a sample of the real stella called. a track i havent taken out of my playlist rotation for 2 years.

Spector Protector
San Francisco dark synth band. They played at my house when I lived in Portland. It was a pretty crazy party. I remember I woke up the next day to find that somebody had stolen my bike.

Blank Dogs vs. Orgy
My housemate gave me a copy of one their records randomly and I dug it. I played it during a Dj set at this punk show and this guy asked me if I was playing Orgy. Also, I was bummed when I finally saw them live, it dispelled the whole weirdo dork vibe I had created around them just from their records. It was very "we're just another rock band" kind of show. Do they sound like Orgy?

Rude Bwoy get Right!
i spent many a early teen day walking around in a suit and various semi-silly hats listening to the first album by the specials on cassette. the 3rd wave of ska was a nightmare to those of us who loved the actually good music ska was in its first wave and some of its second.

This is a link to a long mp3 from the blog "awesome tapes from africa". its a style of music that stems from historical war dance called agbadza.
get with the drum heavy chanting!
get with the drum heavy chanting!
Arthur Russell is a very important part of both of our lives here at this bloguh. This song is one of the most accessible songs he ever did, its a good start for people to leap off the precipice into total insane fandom. Arthur Russell is in the top 3 musicians/artists/humans in modern times. I cannot say enough positive things about him.

John Foxx
I bought this LP recently at a tiny record store In Campbell, CA. where I also DJ'd. I was quite intrigued by the cover and asked a friend what the deal with this guy was only to realize (much later) that he was the singer in Ultravox. Oops. Phenomenal album, much better than anything I've ever heard out of his constant comparison, Gary Numan.
Screamers
This was the first I ever heard from this band and was quite enamored. Unfortunately I was let down to find that a proper album from them was never recorded and the only rough approximation of one, was a stiff (comparatively) sounding demo/rehearsal recording. Still crushes most things these days.
